Proof that I read way too much AVClub content, oh, my God. This was actually fairly hard to write, mostly because I don't write list content like this pretty much at all. (The list's title is terrible, but I couldn't think of anything good. DX)

12. Growing Nobody, Philippa K. Eaton

Philippa K. Eaton barely makes this list. While her parents, legendary sci-fi writing team Julius Eaton and K. C. Hunter, were prolific writers, their primary output consisted of short stories and novellas; they wrote only one full-length novel, A Wrinkle in Space. Eaton herself has focused primarily on television writing, though she shows considerable skill in her woefully out-of-print debut book, 1978's Growing Nobody. Half memoir, half fantasy horror, Nobody is the story of ten year old Ursula, the imaginative daughter of eccentric but doting Manhattan writers. With no friends to speak of besides a cat (whose job it is to protect his owner from Cthulu), she spends most of her time having serious conversations about spacemen with adults and making up wild fantasies. When plants with hand-shaped leaves begin to grow out of the corners of Ursula's bedroom walls, however, her life is no longer an endless game of pretend: the stories her parents tell her have begun to invade reality. What sounds like a typical children's book is in fact much more suited for adults--it's eerie throughout and downright scary in places--but the protagonist's age kept the book from clicking with a mature audience.

On 20 February 2007, Gruffudd also said he is planning to make a big-screen version of Hornblower, and is attempting to gain the rights to the books by C.S. Forester. He was quoted as saying "A&E decided that since it's such an expensive venture to make these movies for television, they're not going to make any more at this point. So it's down to me, I think, to try to bring it back to life."

I loooooooove you, Ioan Gruffudd. I would go watch your Hornblower movie. D: Also, this is amazing. Also, this story is probably set around...1812. But since Shit Would Be Going Down at that point in time, it's basically impossible and free from all logic. :/ Also, I tried not to write it in present tense, but I couldn't keep it from happening, so I said fuck it, this will be a story in present tense.

this is not going to be good, I suspect, but we'll try )

In which Tharkay waxes rhapsodic and writes poetry. God, that sounds out of character by description; I hope it isn't so. DX

The Bachelor's Recipe Box

So called because I think "bachelor" is a fucking awesome word. It's fun to say, it's handsome to look at, and it used to refer to squires. Lawl. ANYWAY, cooking. It is kind of hard, but not that hard. Especially if you have easy recipes on-hand. And those're what I bring you today. ♥

NOTE TO SELF ADD TO THIS AS YOU THINK OF MORE GOOD LITTLE RECIPES.

Like you thought I wouldn't start writing an elaborate world of Singin' in the Rain nextgen fanfic. Set in 1937, three of their eventual four children have shown up, and one of them stars here. Rose attempts to turn her father and uncle into proper jump-ropers.

that's not how you do it at all )

[livejournal.com profile] minviendha did it, and I wanted to, too, but it feels horrendously self-centered (WHICH IS NOT TO SAY LISE IS OR ANYTHING just that I am easily embarrassed), so I figured it belonged over here in self-centered-writing-land. XD

Answer the following questions about the fic you have written.

It's no kind of achievement in the way of visual arts, but I did have fun trying to take pictures of sparklers tonight. I need a tripod ohgod. This one and another were my favourites from tonight, and even the ones where you could see how blurry they were were really fun to take. There's something very satisfying about trying to take pictures of firework things; if I had a tripod, I would have totally tried to get shots of some of the fountains we lit off this evening, too. ♥

-7 BSC icons

Blah blah blah, please credit [personal profile] witticaster (or, you know, [personal profile] ar or [livejournal.com profile] myxginxblossoms or whatever, it's kind of all the same), comments are well-appreciated, and so on. I have more TCLS icons hanging around on Windflowers, but they all...kinda go together. >> So I'll post those at some point in the future, but not yet. Yes, so.

She leveled a glare at me that could've peeled the paint off our trailer and took a swig of gin. "Seven years since I was stuck with you, Caliban. Seven fucking years."

And here I'd only come into the kitchen to see if we had any more bargain-brand cereal left. That year, the fact that dear old Mom was up before one in the afternoon without moaning about a hangover was a minor miracle--but it still made a shitty birthday present.

This is why I hope nobody is missing me--because they're definitely not missing much at all. XD Hi, my name is AR, and I can't really write Sophia worth shit.

Hopefully I will have the longer story I've been working on intermittently finished by the time I get home. It's going to be be kind of the stupidest thing I've ever written, and if you don't believe me, ask me what it's about. >>

...I love how my blah-blah-blah is longer than the shit I've actually posted. XD

Another Poe Family Adventure. This one is about sort of about little Ed, and typing it up is my reward for finishing half my music theory homework. x_x

I have come to a conclusion, I think. I am going to keep writing things this month, as I can, but I am not going to even think about revising them. I simply don't have mental power to waste, sigh. XD;;; When I've turned in all my applications, then I'll worry about it.

Another Poe Family Adventure story, from...two weeks ago now? Yeah. I've been trying to figure out who Mamie is exactly, since I think I have a dece handle on Sukey. Little Ed is next, and I have an idea for looking at him, so. >>

This is dedicated to [livejournal.com profile] pitseleh_smith, who is the only reason these stories even exist, and whose birthday it is right now, in both our time zones. Insert ooh-ing here. :O I would posit this as some kind of in-honour-of-the-day business, but the writing quality is too low to be put forth as a "gift" of any kind. XD So let's just call it coincidence and remind me that my notes are ALWAYS TOO FUCKING LONG WTF.

There had been other houses-- )

...In my defense, you try writing anything worthwhile on a bus full of choirmates. DX
