Lol, icons. Twenty-two from the sketches for the Japanese editions of TCLS, mostly variations on a theme.
( how I spent the morningtime )
Prompt was from
covet, and it went Sometimes someone can mean so much to you, that not even the truth can change your mind. I thought about it for a little bit and then wrote something only marginally related, and as usual, not what you'd call good. Sorry about that, Pixy. TCLSfic ahoy, etc.

I'm still working on that giganticass character survey thing for Promise, and I have a half-written bit of fic about Promise and Cherish that I tried to do on the plane yesterday (WHICH WAS HARD BECAUSE DAD WAS RIGHT THERE AND EVEN IF HE WASN'T READING IT THAT WAS DISTRACTING), and hopefully I'll get both those done eventually. But in the meantime,
thereoncewas pointed out how Niko-has-allergiiiiies is used as a one-off line in canon and never mentioned again. And I am inclined to agree with her that this is a great waste. So I unwasted it.
Insert self-deprecating whining about how my ability to write Cal has seriously deteriorated and how I really wish I knew what boxes my TCLS books were packed in so I could pull them out and reread (though I'm six hours away from them right now anyway, so >>).
( turns out the Kin is just like the Mafia in more ways than one. )

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) andtalkwrite a drabble about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.
Oh, let's be honest, cut text. This is why I shouldn't write any fic. -______-;;; Most of them don't really have endings, I know, and might or might not have anything to do with the icons, and you can tell that I did them out of order and lost my attention span after a while, and and and YOU KNOW, they are just kind of eh. But they're something, probably.
Doing the meme for Promise. Really fucking slowly because I AM TIRED and should be going to bed. >> I'll finish it later.

witticaster (or, you know,
ar or
myxginxblossoms or whatever, it's kind of all the same), comments are well-appreciated, and so on. I have more TCLS icons hanging around on Windflowers, but they all...kinda go together. >> So I'll post those at some point in the future, but not yet. Yes, so.

It's a snippet from a TCLS fic I'm never going to finish. The main point was to get Cal and his niece (because as we all know, when in doubt, I write next-gen fic) into a bit of a verbal spat, but I couldn't get it to there. So let's give up for now, et cetera. This is from end-of-April-beginning-of-May; Jean and I sat by the river and it was blinding and beautiful and instantly reminiscent of Fun Home for me. All this blah blah blah to stall on something that isn't very good and isn't at all done, but sometimes one wants just to put it up and forget about it for a while, et cetera.
( up to sunset, the hudson glittered )
That first sentence meme--post first sentences from various WIPs, et cetera.
I've decided to give these no particular explanation (that is to say, am not including theoretical titles) because it's more fun that way (read: I suck at titles). If for some reason, you want further information about any of them, you need only ask. ♥
• "Ruthie Rutherford, aged forty-three years, ten months, and three days, had been a server of suppers at the Diner's Delight Delightful Diner and Cafe for approximately fifteen of those years."
• "Chuck stretched, back arching as catlike as the suit she currently wore."
• "Up to sunset, the Hudson glittered like the surface was a sea of diamonds instead of a polluted river, and Calla hated it."
• "Many years later, far from a city she could no longer bear to visit, she watched the last dregs of sunset drain away from a wide window a dozen stories above the street."
• "it is a balancing act with purpose"
• "take note: shakespeare didn't use them."
I've left off WIPs that I've posted, because what're you interested in those for, you know? You can read them already. XD
In conclusion, there's a reason most of these are still WIPs. >>

"That which doesn't kill me makes me a badass, huh, Cyrano?"
"Keep up the quips and we're running ten miles today instead," he said mildly.
"You're shitting me."
"Only one way to find out, little brother."
--
...Yeah, I got nothing (lies--there's a setup and I'm too tired to write it, but the main point of the whole thing is so I can use Cal's line >>). But in a week and a half or so, I'm starting up at my summer job again, and I will have just stupid amounts of time for writing terrible fic. /o/ In the meantime, go easy on me, I graduate tomorrow. XD
eta: Did I just accidentally plagiarize half that conversation from the books? Because I'll feel really dumb if I did, but I really wouldn't be surprised. >> Sleepy AR is sleepy and useless as fuck, man.

So I tried to write out something that I mentioned to
thereoncewas, that I've had in mind to write but haven't found a way to do well yet. I still don't think I succeeded here, and posting this is actually making me kind of skittery, but. It's a try, and so be it and et cetera.
Niko/Promise, like everything I write in tcls fandom is turning into.
( try number 1 )

Was going to be a story about small!Niko and small!Cal having to go and retrieve Sophia from a bar. Was kind of a stupid idea, but it fit with the music I was listening to and I wanted to write something. Dunno if I'll bother trying to finish it--the voice sounds off to me, and the storyline's kind of dumb. Felt like posting it anyway, because I was literally typing it into this box and was worried it would end up accidentally disappeared if I didn't. Blah, blah, blah.
( as most alcoholics weren't )
She leveled a glare at me that could've peeled the paint off our trailer and took a swig of gin. "Seven years since I was stuck with you, Caliban. Seven fucking years."
And here I'd only come into the kitchen to see if we had any more bargain-brand cereal left. That year, the fact that dear old Mom was up before one in the afternoon without moaning about a hangover was a minor miracle--but it still made a shitty birthday present.
--
This is why I hope nobody is missing me--because they're definitely not missing much at all. XD Hi, my name is AR, and I can't really write Sophia worth shit.
Hopefully I will have the longer story I've been working on intermittently finished by the time I get home. It's going to be be kind of the stupidest thing I've ever written, and if you don't believe me, ask me what it's about. >>
...I love how my blah-blah-blah is longer than the shit I've actually posted. XD

I continue to think that this is teeeerrible, but it's been well-established previously that I have a low fucking opinion of my TCLS fic, so. >> As requested previously, it's why Calla's name is Calla.
( if I was the kind of guy whose heart melted at hour-old infants yawning... )
Lawl, the only reason you get this now is because otherwise I would lose the link that I need to make reference to. Otherwise, it'd probably sit in the Pile until next year. It's unedited (lawl, I wrote it this morning on a whim) and is sort of a followup to the last fic prompt here. ♥ I've pegged Panos at four and Calla at about one and a half years old.
( Then why am I Panos? )
Fifty entries, wooooooooooooooo. >> This is probably the one I've been most awkward-nervous about posting. It's set in my silly little TCLS future!verse, just a bit of scrap. And--um, yeah. See, I continue to feel lame as hell for having a silly little future!verse, so, um. Yes. But anyway, yes. Uncle Cal slips up a bit with the niece and nephew after a few too many tedious games of Go Fish.
( but when it came to disliking an answer... )
A misbegotten Christmas present, I maintain. This is one of a few stories from the Pile Of AR's Terrible TCLS Stories that I'm going to put up in the next few days. It is good indication of why I shouldn't ever try and write Promise/Niko. :-/ I feel horrifically naked and blegh posting this, I have to admit, but as your eyes bleed, just remember that I can kind of write Cal's voice. AT LEAST I CAN DO THAT. et cetera.
( three ways it didn't happen )
...it was originally going to be five things and one, but I ran out of ideas. >>
...it was originally going to be five things and one, but I ran out of ideas. >>
Continuation of this, incomplete. I wanted to wait and put up the rest of it when it was done and be all "voila, happy Christmas, etc," but it's refusing to get written. DX And sometimes it helps if I just put up what I have, so. As they say in Amazon Trail, here is what I have: unfinished, probably awful, but continuing (slowly, slowly). ♥
( it wasn't my maturest moment, no )
It isn't good, and I don't feel I did a good job at all with the voices--but hey, it's been a while. >> I was being all stalky with
cal_sitter, as you do, and Jen had mentioned right about here the most fantastic idea evar. I feel bad for not asking before stealing wholesale, but. There we go. >>
Anyway, it's set around when Niko is...fifteen-sixteen?...and Cal is however old Cal is. It's shameful how hard I find it to keep their ages straight. But I think it's being told in retrospect--again, as you do. And it's also terrible, but that goes without saying, et cetera.
( What the hell are these? )

DAMN IT, family.
I was writing something, and then you all had to go and come down here and do things and then I lost my entire thread of thought. It was the first exercise from the book
greyfable recommended, The 3 A.M. Epiphany, and it was supposed to be Niko and it wasn't really going anywhere or being at all good, but DAMN IT I WAS WRITING OKAY.
...I'm putting it up here anyhow, so I can maybe try and rescue it when I can retreat somewhere silent and laptop the hell out of it (MAYBE TOMORROW OMG). This is why I'm so desperate for the ability to move my computer around lately. >> Because no one can shut up around here.
( in which there is more evidence that ar can't write mr. robin )

Title: Umm...N/A
Rating: PG
Summary: Cal and Promise have a short conversation about the latter's birthday.
Author's Note: 1. First timewriting posting anything in Cal's voice, and I don't think I've quite gotten either of them, but--well, it was an experiment. 2. Based off that delightful meme response of Pelly's regarding giving Promise Niko's underwear, but it didn't actually get that far (yet--I might come back to it later). 3. Um...kind of repetitive, re: canonical information? But I was trying for Cal's voice, and if there is one thing Cal does, it is think about the same damned things over and over. >> Also, it made it easier to slip into his voice. Also, I think I accidentally stole some phrases wholesale from the novels, but I didn't mean to. ._. Also, I'll stop talking now.
