SEBASTIAN'S FIRST DATE. :D :D :D

"Hey, Dad?" Sebastian asked, wearing a carefully neutral face (done up with a generous helping of eyeliner, as was currently his wont) as he walked into the lounge. "We aren't doing anything tonight, are we?"

Archie glanced up from his book. "Not so far. Why?"

"I, uh. I'm going to a movie with a friend tonight. Can you drive us?"

"What film?" William called from the kitchen. "If it's rated 15, we have to talk about it first."

"It's not!" was Sebastian's indignant response. "It's only rated 12--it's the Robin Hood movie, and I already told Leo you'd take us."

"Leo?" asked Archie, setting down Doctor Faustus. "Have we met him before?"

"No, but he's a friend. From school." And Sebastian was back to terribly unsubtle shifty glances toward the doorway from whence he came. "Please say you'll drive us?"

The first inklings of suspicion had entered Archie's mind, and he found himself determined to see if he couldn't confirm them. With a cheerful nonchalance, he crossed his arms behind his head, leaned back on the sofa, and asked, "Can't his parents take you?"

"No, because I asked him, so that means you have to." Though this was delivered in the very best of don't-be-stupid-Dad sorts of voices, Sebastian's expression continued to be one of vague anxiety. "Dad, please?"

"All right," Archie relented, giving his son a cheeky smile. "Your father's been wanting to see that one anyway. What time, and who's paying?"

"I am, I already told you I did the invit--Dad, you can't stay!" He was the very picture of horror at the idea, his mouth having dropped open in shock.

"We just want to watch the film, we won't embarrass you," said Archie, then called out, "William, d'you want to see the Robin Hood picture?"

In lieu of shouting back, William came in from the kitchen, wiping his hands on a tea towel. "You wanted to see that one, Archie."

"Well, d'you want to come see it with me? Then they won't have to call us up when they're done."

Sebastian sunk into a chair, looking for all the world as if he might decide simply to walk to the theatre instead, however early he might start.

"Why don't we have a compromise?" William suggested blandly. "Archie and I will come with, but we won't sit anywhere near you and Leo. You, meanwhile, can tell him how we forced you to let us come with because we're terribly uncool, and Leo will think you're a saint for putting up with us."

"Do you think so?" asked Sebastian, sounding wholly taken with this possibility. He sat up from his slump and turned round to look back at William.

"Yes," William replied, so gravely that it could not possibly be a lie. "Now what time's the film at?"

"Seven-thirty."

Archie glanced at his watch. "It's six now--you'll need to get ready."

Sebastian began to nod vigorously, then stopped, attempting to affect indifference. "Yeah. I guess. I'll be upstairs."
