It feels rather out of character, ugh. More lolpiercing.

"Have you quite recovered, Captain?" Tharkay asked as he joined Will on the sofa, Temeraire having vacated the common areas of the flat in favour of doing homework in his bedroom. A note of amusement showed in his voice, if not his face, which was as solemn as if he was seriously asking after Will's health. "I was concerned for your injury all through dinner."

Will brought his attention away from the assignments he was correcting and smiled. "I had not expected being stabbed with a needle to hurt as much as it did. I suppose you were far more stoic than I."

"I don't remember flinching, certainly." Tharkay looked thoughtful, his gaze directed towards Will but seeing something that had happened long ago. "But I don't recall the actual moment of piercing, either. Nor anything before waking up with a bit of string through my ear. Perhaps we should have gotten you high in advance for it, too."

"Surely we're a bit old for that by now," Will said. One of his hands went to his left earlobe, as it had several times that night already; the small gold ball still felt alien to his fingers.

"If you say so." Tharkay's expression shifted then, so slightly that Will might not have noticed, had he less experience with interpreting Tharkay's moods. With an artificially casual air, he asked, "It isn't painful anymore, though?"

Will shook his head. "It stopped fairly soon after you put the earring in."

"I'm glad." Tharkay moved closer, until he was a breath away from sitting in Will's lap, and brought his head close to Will's. "I don't think you'd like this as much if it still hurt."

Will took in a hard breath as Tharkay's lips closed around his earlobe, his teeth grazing the skin and catching on the head of the gold stud. There had been very few justifiable reasons for him to go through with piercing his ear before this moment; unfortunately, there were still very few justifiable reasons that he could mention in mixed company. Tharkay's mouth made the entire venture worthwhile, though, and it was all Will could do to keep from moaning aloud.

He turned his head, catching Tharkay in a long kiss, but Tharkay nudged his head over again when they parted for air. The words were hot on Will's neck: "Do you have any idea how long I've wanted to do this?"

"Ten years, give or take?" Will suggested, unable to suppress a small groan as Tharkay's tongue traced a line around the outer shell of his ear.

"Then let me--" Tharkay told him, and began to play with Will's earring once more.

Will was more than happy to let him do just that, and it was no effort to shift them so they were lying against each other, sprawled over the sofa, one of Will's legs pressed between Tharkay's. He was just slipping a hand beneath Tharkay's shirt, fingers alighting on one of the faint scars on his back--

"Laurence, do you know if," Temeraire asked, his voice growing louder as he left his room and came nearer the sofa, and then stopping short when he was properly there. With wide blue eyes, he amended himself. "Never mind. I shall call Granby and ask him." And he promptly turned and walked back to his bedroom.

Tharkay was kind enough to let Will scramble up and go after Temeraire without complaint. Willing his face not to betray him to the point of turning crimson, he paused on the thresh hold of Temeraire's room. "May I come in?"

"Yes, of course," Temeraire answered, focusing quite seriously on the maths textbook on his desk.

Will took a seat on the edge of Temeraire's bed and cleared his throat. "I must apologize; I am afraid Tharkay I became somewhat--carried away--"

"Oh, you do not need to explain," said Temeraire, and he looked up at Will through a mass of dark fringe. "I
